The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said the U.S. president is determined that the Islamic Republic will never be able to hold the world hostage with nuclear weapons, and for that purpose continues with “maximum pressure.”

Mike Waltz, in a post on the X social network, added: “If Iran returns to the negotiating table in good faith, the door is open for that.” His post included part of his remarks on Sunday at an event hosted by The New Yorker in New York.

At the event, Waltz described the U.S.-Israel war with the Islamic Republic as an ongoing conflict of 47 years. He said: “The president is determined to stay focused on his goal—that Iran, the biggest and most active state sponsor of terrorism the world has ever seen, will in no way be able to hold the world hostage, let alone the Strait of Hormuz, under a nuclear umbrella.”

The U.S. ambassador added: “The Iranian government is at its weakest point since 1357 [1979], and it is becoming even weaker.” He referred to the fall in the value of Iran’s national currency and said: “They will come back. I hope it happens peacefully and diplomatically.”

According to Waltz, the administration of Donald Trump believes that the time in this confrontation is in America’s favor.
