U.S. ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, said that Donald Trump, the U.S. president, has halted attacks on Iran for the second night in a row to provide more time for diplomatic efforts.

Waltz, on Sunday, said in an interview with Fox News: “The president is giving time for talks and has allowed a bit more space for the process of dialogue.”

In contrast, Iran’s army spokesperson also announced on Sunday that Tehran, in response to this move, has stopped its retaliatory attacks in the region.

This pause comes after nearly two weeks of daily U.S. attacks and the parties’ reciprocal attacks; clashes that effectively wiped out the ceasefire established in June.

In response to a question on NBC about whether Trump has, for now, set aside escalation, Waltz said: “I don’t have that understanding. The president has kept all options on the table.”
