🔶 Trump: Saudi Arabia may accept Israel’s help against the Houthis
Donald Trump, President of the United States, said on Friday, 24 Mehr (16 October) that Saudi Arabia may accept Israeli assistance in its fight against the Yemeni Houthis.
In response to a question about whether Saudi Arabia would accept Israeli help, Trump said he believes Riyadh will accept these assistance. He also emphasized that Israel has provided a lot of help to Saudi Arabia so far.
Trump also expressed confidence that efforts to join Saudi Arabia to the “Abraham Accords” and “normalization of relations with Israel” could be restarted again.
The Abraham Accords are a plan initiated by the U.S. President to establish peace and normalize relations between Arab countries and Israel.
Drone and missile attacks by Yemen’s Houthis, from groups supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran, have increased pressure on Saudi Arabia. Some experts on Middle East affairs said Tehran’s policies of creating tensions could push Riyadh toward greater cooperation with Israel.
However, Saudi Arabia still conditions the normalization of its relations with Israel on creating an irreversible path toward the establishment of an independent Palestinian state; a condition that the government of Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, opposes.
