🔶 Trump reaches deal with tech leaders over an “AI constitution”
Donald Trump, the president of the United States, signed a joint agreement on artificial intelligence in a meeting with prominent representatives of the technology industry. Trump described the document as “ethically binding” and as a form of a “constitution.” His administration is also considering forming a panel of about ten people to oversee the entire artificial intelligence industry.
However, Trump also once again emphasized his opposition to setting international regulations. The U.S. president said: “They will oversee their own operations.”
In the meeting, Trump justified his opposition to establishing legal regulations for artificial intelligence by citing the technological superiority of the United States over China. The 80-year-old president said: “We’re the leaders and we want to preserve that position.” He also announced that an executive order is being prepared to rename artificial intelligence as “superintelligence.”
Trump had invited executives of major companies amid growing warnings about the risks of artificial intelligence. In this meeting, he praised these executives as “the brightest people in the world.”
Sitting alongside the U.S. president were Elon Musk, a technology billionaire and his former adviser, and Jensen Huang, CEO of chipmaker Nvidia. Mark Zuckerberg from Meta, Dario Amodei from Anthropic, Jeff Bezos from Amazon, and Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI, were also among several technology industry representatives present at the meeting.
