🔶 Threat of murder against a prominent German Jewish figure after the state win of AfD

Ludwig Espenle, the head responsible for combating antisemitism in the German state of Bavaria, says that with threats of murder against Charlotte Knobloch, a prominent leader of the Jewish community in Munich and Upper Bavaria, “all boundaries have been crossed.”

The 93-year-old was threatened with murder after the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party’s success in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.

This Holocaust survivor (the slaughter of millions of Jews by the Nazis during World War II) had, after the Alternative for Germany victory in Saxony-Anhalt, said with intense concern: “I never, even in my worst nightmares, imagined that right-wing extremists could become victorious in elections in Germany like this again.”

The 93-year-old woman, who had previously also served as chair of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, added: “I say it plainly: this is what frightens me.”

Referring to this threat, the head of the antisemitism-arianing body in the state of Bavaria said that Germany is now facing “a fateful crossroads.”
