🔻Thomas Massie, the Republican representative of the U.S. state of Kentucky, on Tuesday, September 15/24 Khordad, introduced a bill to impeach Pete Hegseth, the U.S. defense minister (who calls himself the minister of war), in the House of Representatives.

Massie has accused Pete Hegseth of having: - continued military operations against Iran without congressional authorization; - violated the Congressional War Powers resolution; - endangered the lives of civilians in military attacks in Iran and Yemen; - gone beyond legal authority in U.S. military operations in the Caribbean and Venezuela; - abused his power to restrict the freedom of expression of Senator Mark Kelly.

Because Thomas Massie has put it forward as a bill with legal priority, the House of Representatives must take action on it within two working days; although Republican leaders can first put a motion to table the bill to a vote.

He is not running for the congressional midterm elections, which will be held in about 40 days, despite being a outspoken critic of the war against Iran and of aid to Israel.

In May of last year, Massie led efforts to publish records from the Department of Justice related to Jeffrey Epstein, a sex offender, which enraged Donald Trump, and then in Kentucky’s primary elections he gave up the intra-party Republican contest to the candidate supported by Trump.
