The Washington Post reported that Donald Trump’s tariffs, the U.S. president, and the war with the Islamic Republic have increased the cost of fertilizer, fuel, and agricultural machinery, while at the same time Congress’s efforts to provide emergency aid to farmers have been halted.

According to the newspaper, the drop in agricultural product prices alongside rising costs has sharply reduced the profits of some farmers and increased concerns about the emergence of a new crisis in the agricultural sector.

Republican leaders are trying to approve $12 billion in emergency aid for rural areas, but this aid has been bundled with the allocation of billions of dollars for the war with Iran; a war which, according to the Washington Post, has itself led to increased fuel costs and pressure on farmers.

Some agricultural groups have supported the proposal, but other groups have opposed linking aid for farmers with financing the war.

The National Farmers Union in the United States has also warned that costly war funding could further disrupt global markets, raise the prices of agricultural inputs, and intensify economic pressure on farmers.
