The Washington Post, citing documents it reviewed and quoting an American official and a person familiar with the matter, reported that the Islamic Republic’s threat to kill Donald Trump last month led to an extraordinary operation in which he secretly flew from Turkey on another military aircraft; while the White House had announced that Trump was aboard Air Force One.

The Washington Post, citing a person familiar with the matter, added that in Ankara Trump got on the old Air Force One in front of television cameras, but minutes later he was secretly transferred using an airport food-delivery truck to a smaller aircraft of the Air Force’s C-32A type. In this way, Air Force One, with reporters and some White House staff present, became a “decoy aircraft.”

The Washington Post, citing another U.S. official, wrote that in the past 30 years, in some cases due to serious threats against the head of the U.S. presidency or his travel to dangerous areas, Air Force One has also been used as a decoy aircraft.
