The Washington Post, citing a note from the U.S. Department of War, reported that the Pentagon has asked U.S. defense companies to submit, at the same time as there has been a severe reduction in missile stockpiles in the war with the government of Iran, their plans to rapidly increase production and delivery of weapons.

According to the report, Steve Feinberg, deputy secretary of war, has given defense industry executives 21 days to provide their plans for increasing production of critical capabilities and delivering them faster.

In the note, Feinberg wrote that multi-year weapons development cycles are no longer acceptable and that the United States should sharply accelerate its production plans and increase the capacity of defense factories.

The order was issued while fighting the government of Iran has consumed a significant portion of America’s missile stockpiles and shortages of ammunition have become one of the issues in tensions between Donald Trump, the president of the United States, and the Department of War.
