The Wall Street Journal reported that Baird Cooper, the commander of CENTCOM, has prepared a plan for 10 to 14 days of intensive airstrikes against the Islamic Republic, with the aim of delivering a serious blow to Tehran’s missile capability. After the latest missile attack by the Islamic Republic, U.S. President Donald Trump would have to decide between this option, a more limited strike, or continuing diplomacy.

According to this report, Cooper believes that limited strikes have not deterred Tehran and that escalating operations could reduce the Islamic Republic’s retaliatory capability and America’s need to use interceptor missiles. In contrast, Dan Kain, the chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, warned about reductions in air-defense stocks and the broader consequences of the war, although he does not consider this shortfall to be a barrier to operations. U.S. officials said that if wide-scale operations were resumed, Israel might also participate.
