The U.S. military released more details about an attack on an oil tanker in the Sea of Oman and said that the ship’s crew had attempted at least four times to break the blockade of Iranian ports before being targeted.
Hawkins, a spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command, CENTCOM, told Agence France-Presse that the tanker’s crew was warned several times, but they did not follow the orders. According to him, U.S. forces at the scene then stopped the ship from moving by firing at its engine room.
The CENTCOM spokesperson added that the oil tanker is no longer heading toward Iran.
Earlier, a U.S. official told Reuters that U.S. forces targeted the oil tanker “MT Loven” after an attempt to pass the blockade of Iranian ports.
