The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic said that an invitation to visit Pakistan has been received for the foreign minister and the speaker of the parliament.

Ismail Baghai, at his weekly press briefing, said the trip “will be carried out whenever the appropriate grounds are available.”

Ishaq Dar, the first deputy prime minister and Pakistan’s foreign minister, asked Abbas Araqchi in a phone call last Monday to travel to Islamabad at the earliest possible opportunity. That same day, Ayaz Sadiq, the speaker of Pakistan’s National Assembly, extended a similar invitation to Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.

The invitations were made hours after Baghai described Islamabad as the Islamic Republic’s main mediator with the United States.

Pakistan hosted talks in Farvardin that, for the first time in four decades, brought U.S. and Islamic Republic officials into the same room. The memorandum of understanding signed in Khordad was also obtained through Islamabad’s mediation.
