The President of South Korea and the President of the United States, in a 30-minute meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, welcomed “significant progress” in talks on strategic investment between the two countries.

According to an announcement by the South Korean presidential office, Lee Jae-myung and Donald Trump also discussed enrichment and reprocessing of nuclear fuel, nuclear submarines, shipbuilding, and transferring operational command in wartime from the United States to South Korea.

Yoo Seong-lak, South Korea’s national security adviser, said that Mr. Trump emphasized his readiness to hold talks with North Korea.

On Tuesday, South Korea’s Ministry of Industry reported to lawmakers on the implementation of the $350 billion investment package. A gas power plant in Texas is the first likely investment.
