The President of France said that after meeting with the President of the United States in New York, the two countries will cooperate with each other to reduce tensions in energy markets.

Emmanuel Macron wrote in a post on X that immediately after arriving in New York, he met with Donald Trump to coordinate responses to regional and international challenges. He wrote: “We decided to cooperate with each other to reduce tensions in energy markets, by protecting critical infrastructure in the Middle East and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Macron added that the two leaders are focusing their efforts on stopping attacks on energy infrastructure and on non-military targets in Ukraine. He wrote: “Civilians must be protected and serious negotiations on the terms of peace between Russia and Ukraine must begin as soon as possible.”

Earlier, the French president had told reporters that talks with President Trump were “very constructive,” and that they focused on the need for faster assistance to Ukraine in the area of interceptors.
