The head of the Tehran City Council’s safety committee announced that 40 hospitals in Tehran lack any safety approval, and that the Ministry of Health is not pursuing the issue of fire safety in the capital’s hospitals with due seriousness.
Meydi Babaei, in an interview with the news and analysis website Shahr, said that Sina, Khomeini, Shohada-ye Yaftabad, and Rasul Akram hospitals are still among the “critical” and “very high-risk” hospitals in Tehran.
He pointed out that Sina Hospital has taken no action to ensure safety so far, and called for the Ministry of Health to condition the renewal of operating permits for medical centers on obtaining safety approval.
The head of the Tehran City Council’s safety committee, referring to the fact that sealing hospitals is not feasible and not in their best interest given the nature of their activities, warned that if an incident occurs in these facilities, responsibility will rest with the Ministry of Health.
