🔹According to The Guardian, opposition to Infantino had begun even before the controversy over the transfer of part of the commercial rights of the World Cup. The dissenting members of the FIFA council are calling for an independent review of the decision to revoke the suspension of Fularin Balogun during the 2026 World Cup; a decision that is said to have been made after several phone calls by Donald Trump and that also prompted an official protest from the Norwegian football federation.

🔹Under the FIFA statutes, if 19 of the 37 FIFA council members support this request, an extraordinary general assembly can be held. The Guardian has reported that the number of opponents of Infantino had risen to more than 10 even before the disclosure of the proposal to transfer part of the World Cup’s commercial rights, and that his recent retreat from this project has made his opponents more determined to continue their actions.
