🔸The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced on Friday, the 8th of Mordad, that, alongside the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Football (CONCACAF), it is opposed to FIFA’s proposal to sell part of the shares in the commercial activities of the World Cup. UEFA had previously threatened to boycott the next World Cup.

Hours after the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) joined the group of opponents to the proposal to sell part of FIFA’s shares in its commercial activities, Carlos Queiroz, FIFA’s senior adviser to the president, stepped down from his position. He called the proposal a “bad deal for football” and warned that the plan could put the future of football in the hands of private investors.

The opposition of these three confederations—which together hold 136 votes out of 211 FIFA members—has significantly reduced the chances of the plan being approved if a vote is held. To approve FIFA’s proposal, at least 106 members must support it.
