🔶 Nasrin Sotoudeh’s son received the European Criminal Bar Association award on her behalf
The 2026 Scott Crosbie Award was presented to Nasrin Sotoudeh, a practicing lawyer and human rights defender.
This human rights award was granted to her within the framework of the European Criminal Bar Association’s (ECBA) autumn conference.
The award ceremony was held at the Tirana Hotel and International Conference Center in the Albanian capital.
Since this prominent lawyer was unable to attend the ceremony in person, her son Nima Khandan received the award on her behalf.
The European Criminal Bar Association announced that by granting this award, it recognizes Sotoudeh’s more than two decades of activity in defending fundamental human rights, women’s rights, fair trial, and the independence of the legal profession.
Professor Margaret Satterthwaite, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers and a professor at the New York University School of Law, who was present at the ceremony, in her remarks emphasized the importance of the independence of the legal profession and international support for lawyers who “face repression because of their professional activities.”
