Siemens Germany signed an agreement with the “Caspian Green Corridor” union for the development of a power transmission project transferring electricity generated from renewable energy sources in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and the Republic of Azerbaijan to Europe.

Over the past years, the three mentioned countries have signed contracts worth billions of dollars to develop solar and wind energy, and they previously also signed a strategic document for the transfer of clean energy from these countries via Georgia and the Black Sea to Europe.

According to figures from the International Renewable Energy Agency, Kazakhstan has tripled its wind and solar energy generation capacity over the past five years, reaching nearly 3,500 megawatts.

The capacity of Uzbekistan’s renewable electricity generation also rose over the past five years from around zero to above 4,500 megawatts at peak, and in the first half of this year, that figure exceeded 5,500 megawatts.

The Republic of Azerbaijan is also striving to reach a capacity of 10,000 megawatts of clean electricity by 2030.
