A land blockade could increase pressure on the people of Iran by halting imports of food, energy, and textiles, but experts say carrying out such a measure would be difficult and may not lead to protests or internal pressure.

Last week, the U.S. Senate approved a broad sanctions bill on Russia, which included new sanctions on Iran and gave Trump new tariff authorities that could potentially be used against countries that help Iran with trade and arms procurement.
