Reuters reported that Islamic Republic drone attacks on CIA facilities in countries in the Persian Gulf region have prompted U.S. intelligence analysts to examine the possible role of Russia in providing targeting information or advanced drone technology to Tehran.

U.S. officials have not yet reached a definitive conclusion, but they are reviewing the accuracy of the attacks and Moscow’s technical support for Tehran.

According to Reuters sources, at least two CIA-affiliated centers, including the CIA station at the U.S. embassy in Riyadh, were targeted.

Two Western officials said the attack in Riyadh used upgraded Shahed drones with Russian assistance. One source also said that Russia’s Kometa-M satellite navigation system has increased the accuracy of the Shahed-136 drones.

Analysts are also investigating whether Moscow provided Tehran with targeting information for sensitive facilities.

Some sources have suggested that the CIA station in Riyadh may have been targeted accidentally. Russia had previously rejected reports about providing the Kometa-M system to Iran.
