Agence France-Presse, citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, said that more than 800,000 Lebanese war displaced people have started returning to their towns and areas after a relative reduction in fighting.

The office said that by the 8th of Mordad, 821,077 people had begun returning to their main places of residence, but more than 360,000 people remain away from their homes, of whom 26,000 have been housed in government shelters.

The report said that damage to infrastructure caused by the war has severely affected access to water for more than 700,000 people in southern Lebanon.

A new round of negotiations between Israel and Lebanon mediated by the United States began on Tuesday, the 13th of Mordad, in Rome, the capital of Italy.

The Lebanese Hezbollah, which the United States and Israel recognize as a terrorist organization, opposes peace talks.
