🔻Reuters, citing three Yemeni government officials, reports that the Houthis have taken control of the port of “Mocha.”
The Houthis are trying to seize strategic Red Sea ports; an action that would increase their control over the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, which is considered a vital chokepoint for shipping in the Red Sea.
Earlier, fierce clashes between Saudi-backed forces and the Houthis in Yemen had heightened concerns about the war’s potential expansion.
In addition, Saudi aircraft, in retaliation for attacks carried out on their infrastructure, have attacked several areas in Yemen.
The escalation of tensions has led to the declaration of an emergency situation in “Khamis Mushait,” located in the south west of Saudi Arabia.
