Return of Iranian students from Russia with specialized knowledge of deadly drones and other technologies
🔸 An investigation by “Systema” shows that some Iranians studying in Russia participate in projects with military applications, and some of them, after returning to Iran, join relevant institutions connected to the armed forces. These connections continue to expand, and the number of Iranians working while studying at universities in Russia in the years of Moscow’s war against Ukraine has increased significantly.
🔸 A review of research published over the past 10 years by “Systema,” the Russian research unit of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, indicates that Russia and Iran continue to cooperate in areas that are of special importance to Iran’s defense industries.
🔸 This cooperation now includes technologies that have been used both in Russia’s war against Ukraine and in the war between the United States and Israel with Iran, in addition to traditional areas such as rocket propulsion and uranium enrichment; including electronic warfare, the deception of GPS signals to mislead navigation systems, and the use of artificial intelligence in drones.
