🔶 Qatar: We are working to resume talks between Iran and the United States

Majed Al Ansari, spokesman of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Doha is cooperating with the United States and Iran to resume negotiations, and that American officials have said Washington wants to reach an agreement.

Al Ansari, speaking on the sidelines of the “Qatar Economic Forum” in New York, said that in recent weeks Doha has been exchanging views with Tehran and Washington in order to prepare the ground for resuming talks. According to him, Qatar is trying to “fill the gap between the two sides and find the right moment to move the work forward.”

Referring to the United States’ desire to reach an agreement, Al Ansari said: “We have heard official statements from different officials in the [U.S.] administration confirming that the United States wants an agreement and to reach a solution to this war.”

He also emphasized that any solution to end the war must, while ensuring regional stability, lead to an international understanding to protect navigational waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz.
