Polish police grapple student violence

Police in Poland have arrested multiple teens for making threats to school attacks, the force said on Friday (October 9).

Rumours are circulating of an online challenge that could be behind two stabbing sprees in the past week and may reach its climax on Friday, but police say they have so far found no evidence of a link.

Digital Affairs Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski says concerns circulating online appear to be fuelled by misinformation rather than evidence of a broader trend.

Police have arrested 10 people, mainly for making threats online, including a 13-year-old who posted a photo of a knife in a class group chat.

On Thursday (October 8), a 15-year-old former pupil wearing a helmet-mounted camera killed one employee and injured two others at a Polish primary school. On Wednesday, a 19-year-old wounded 10 at another school in Ostroleka, northeastern Poland.
