A 7.1-magnitude earthquake in Japan has, so far, left 13 people dead. The quake has also caused a great deal of financial damage, and in addition to destroying homes, a number of roads and bridges were severely damaged. Japan, with a population of 125 million, is considered one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world. Every year, around 1,500 earthquakes occur in this country, most of which do not involve significant damage.
