Mount Etna on the island of Sicily shows no signs of calming down and for days has been scattering ash and lava. These eruptions have been disrupting the operations of Catania’s international airport for a week now. Thirty thousand tourists must leave the region using other airports and routes. Experts say this is an unusual eruption and that at present there appears to be no reduction in volcanic activity; instead, it seems to be strengthening.
