Peygah Bani Hashemi, senior legal researcher at the University of Chicago, told Iran International that several of the death sentences issued by the Islamic Republic were for individuals who were under the legal age at the time of arrest.

According to her, the Islamic Republic has put children in line for execution and, despite Iran’s accession to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, has no obligation to implement its provisions.
