Pete Hegseth, the U.S. defense secretary, on Friday responded to a claim by The Washington Post that said that more American soldiers had been killed in clashes with the Islamic Republic than the Defense Department had publicly announced, calling the claim “fake” and “nauseating.” He said the claim is completely “a lie.” He said, “Shame on The Washington Post,” which is “worse than Iran’s government media.”
