🔻It is believed that a stray SpaceX rocket may have collided with the Moon and created a new crater on the lunar surface near the famous Einstein crater; an event that offers scientists a rare research opportunity and could help future space missions.
The separated upper section of the Falcon 9 rocket impacted the Moon’s surface near the Einstein crater at a speed of about 8,700 kilometers per hour on Wednesday, 9.
Seeing the brief but striking glow caused by the impact was difficult even for amateur astronomers equipped with advanced telescopes; however, major observatories across the Americas are now analyzing the data obtained.
It may take several days or even weeks for a complete picture of the event and what can be learned from it to become clear, but for scientists studying the structure and surface of planets, this accidental collision is a uniquely valuable scientific opportunity.
