Pakistan’s airstrike in northeast Afghanistan left at least three dead.

According to ToloNews, the strike targeted the Kunar province and several others were also injured.

The attack took place two days after an attack on a police center in northwest Pakistan, raising the risk of renewed fighting between the two neighbors. Pakistan and Afghanistan experienced their most intense clashes in recent years last winter.

Earlier, the Taliban had warned Islamabad about any attack on Afghan soil. Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, said in an interview with Al Arabiya: “If Pakistan violates the sanctity of Afghan soil, Afghanistan has the right to defend its country, and we will do the same.”

Mujahid had said there would be a “forceful response” to any violation of Afghanistan’s sovereignty.
