🔶 Pakistan officials travel to Saudi Arabia amid efforts to revive talks between the United States and Iran

The spokesperson of Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that Shehbaz Sharif, the country’s prime minister, today Thursday, August 6 (15 Mordad), will travel to Saudi Arabia at the head of a high-level delegation that includes Asim Munir, the army’s chief commander, to review bilateral relations and to discuss regional developments amid ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.

Sharif’s trip to Saudi Arabia is being carried out amid hopes of reaching a peace agreement between the United States and Iran. Donald Trump, the U.S. president, on Sunday canceled planned attacks against Iran and claimed that Middle Eastern countries have obtained the “frameworks” of an agreement to end the war.

Pakistan, which is a close ally of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, has been mediating between the two sides since the outbreak of the war between the United States and Iran in February.
