🔶 Oman: an oil slick has reached the shores of this country

While tensions between Iran and the United States over the Strait of Hormuz are still ongoing, Oman is facing an additional threat and has reported the arrival of an oil slick on the country’s coasts.

CNN, citing Oman’s officials, reported that traces of oil pollution resulting from the grounding of an oil tanker have reached some shores of the Ras Madrakah area in the southeast of the country. According to reports published earlier, the tanker is likely part of Russia’s shadow fleet.

Oman’s Environment Agency said that specialized teams are carrying out monitoring and surveillance operations, and that to track the movement and spread of the oil slicks and to predict the possible locations where they may reach, it is using technical monitoring tools, satellite images, and numerical models. According to this agency, efforts are being made to counter this oil slick and its environmental consequences as much as possible.

CNN, citing the organization, reported that based on assessments and monitoring results, the oil slicks have affected an area of about 40 kilometers of the Ras Madrakah coastal strip and that pollution is expected to reach the coasts of Masirah as well.
