Oil prices fell on Thursday after the simultaneous release of positive reports by the International Energy Agency, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and OPEC about oil supply from Gulf Arab countries.

Brent, the benchmark oil price, fell by more than 2% on Thursday to around $87. West Texas Intermediate, the U.S. benchmark oil price, also dropped to $81.5.

OPEC says its member countries’ oil production in July averaged 23.6 million barrels per day, which is only 4 million barrels less than last year. The International Energy Agency has also predicted that global oil consumption this year will decrease by 1.6 million barrels per day.
