Nikol Pashinyan, Prime Minister of Armenia, said his country will submit a request to join the European Union in the near future.

In March 2025, the Parliament of Armenia passed a law with 64 votes in favor against seven opposing votes, calling on the government to begin the process of joining the European Union.

The law was put to the parliament on the basis of a people’s initiative with 60,000 signatures.

At a summit of the Eurasian Economic Union, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, ahead of the May 29 meeting, in a joint statement called for holding “as soon as possible” a referendum in Armenia on staying in this union or joining the European Union.
