Newly released footage from security cameras shows the moment that an earthquake of magnitude 6.8 on 6 Mordad (28 July) shook the Kumamoto General Hospital in Japan. At the time the earthquake struck, four surgeries were underway.
A video recorded by a camera inside one of the operating rooms, where abdominal surgery was taking place, shows medical staff protecting a patient with their bodies as equipment shakes violently. It also shows one of the nurses opening the door to secure the evacuation route.
According to the hospital, all four surgeries that were being performed when the earthquake occurred were completed successfully.
After suspending its outpatient services following the earthquake on 6 Mordad, Kumamoto General Hospital resumed normal outpatient activity from 14 Mordad.
