🔻Muhammad Fatih Cicekli, the governor of Ardahan in northeastern Turkey, who is known for his interest in cycling and sports, was dismissed from his post on July 17, following controversy over his wearing tight cycling shorts.
Before his dismissal, Onur Akگون Alp, a member of the main opposition Republican People’s Party, accused him of having “trampled the dignity and status of the state position” with this kind of clothing.
Cicekli, in defense of himself, said that this outfit is the standard cycling attire.
Meanwhile, an online campaign calling for his return to his job has been launched, which so far has collected more than 10,000 signatures.
His supporters say that by promoting sports, youth activities, and cycling tourism, Cicekli has provided important services to the province of Ardahan.
No official reason for his dismissal has been announced.
