🔶 "More than 500 death sentences carried out in Iran since the beginning of this calendar year"

According to a report by Iran Human Rights (IHR), a human-rights organization based in Norway, since the beginning of this calendar year, “at least 511 people” have been executed in Iran. Based on this report, the execution of the death sentence for “at least 29 people” among detainees was directly linked to the anti-government protests of Dey.

According to the human-rights organization, among those executed are “at least 16 women and 13 political prisoners” who are supporters of opposition groups. Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the director of this organization, said in an interview with Agence France-Presse: «The main purpose of all these executions, regardless of the titles of the charges, is to intimidate society and prevent the formation of a new wave of protests.» He also expressed concern about the possibility that this trend will intensify in the coming months.

The rise in the number of executions has led to multiple international reactions. Donald Trump, the U.S. president, while expressing concern about this process, called the crackdowns a “humanitarian crisis on a vast scale” and demanded an immediate halt to the executions of protesters.
