Merz announces $1.13B in military aid for Ukraine

Friedrich Merz, Germany's Chancellor arrived in Kyiv on Sunday morning to air raid and defence system alerts sounding as Kyiv's northern bridge was attacked for a second day.

Merz pledged to continue support for Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy with a package of measures including $1.13 billion in military aid and for repairs in the energy sector.

"I travelled to Kyiv today because Ukraine needs all our support in the coming weeks," Merz said, saying that Russian forces were bombings towns, residential buildings and heating plants. "If Russia is not stopped, sooner or later its war machine will turn against us."

The visit happens just a day after a Northern bridge in the city was struck by a Russian drone.
