Mike Pompeo, the former U.S. secretary of state, warned in an interview with Fox News that pulling out of the conflict with the Islamic Republic without achieving “victory” could undermine the trust of Washington’s allies and embolden China, Russia, [the] Iranian government, and North Korea.

Pompeo rejected calls for finding a way to end the confrontation and said that such an effort, even if it appears desirable on the surface, would not amount to victory in the eyes of American voters and the United States’ rivals. According to him, Washington should continue its operations until the “defeat of the Islamic Republic.”
