🔻Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, described a deadly fire at a military base in the Canadian province of Alberta as “the saddest peacetime disaster” in the country’s military history.

It was reported on Sunday that following a large-scale fire at a military base in the province of Alberta, four members of the Canadian Armed Forces died and 39 others were injured.

The fire, which began at around 4:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, broke out at Canada’s Canadian Forces base in Wainwright, one of the country’s busiest military training centers. The fire has now been brought under control. The cause of the fire is not yet known, but officials said it does not appear to be linked to “terrorist activity.”

BBC confirmed that Sergeant Morgan Wong and soldiers Shawn Farley, Aidan Golding, and Hayden Lickmark died in the incident. Daniel Smith, the premier of the province of Alberta, announced at a press conference on Sunday evening that among the 39 injured people being treated in hospital, the condition of at least 19 is critical.
