Lee Jae-myeong, the South Korean president, said he will not send his military forces to participate in the war with Iran.

In recent months, there had been speculation that South Korea might join the United States in cooperation on operations to protect shipping in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.

Now, the president has emphasized that his country will not “participate or intervene” in a war with Iran, and that he will never agree to deploy its forces to participate in a foreign dispute.

In another part of his remarks, the South Korean president said, “It’s clear that Trump wants dialogue, and I also ask President Trump to enter into talks.”

In a late-month interview, Donald Trump criticized that he has received “very little” help from other countries. He cited South Korea as one of the United States’ main allies in Asia as an example.
