🔸Krista Pike was scheduled to be executed on Wednesday night, the 8th of Mehr, in the U.S. state of Tennessee with an injection of a lethal substance; however, after receiving two doses of the execution drug she remained alive and was finally transferred by ambulance from prison to a hospital.
🔸One day later, her attorneys announced that the condition of the 50-year-old woman is critical and that, in a hospital in Nashville, she is under medical care «to save her life».
🔸But surviving the carrying out of the sentence raises an uncommon question: what happens now to Krista Pike, and can the state of Tennessee take steps again to execute her?
🔸The short answer is that her death sentence remains in place.
🔸Failure to carry out a death sentence under U.S. laws, by itself, does not lead to the sentence being overturned or converted to life imprisonment. However, the authorization to execute Pike expired at midnight on Wednesday, and if Tennessee officials decide to seek her execution again, they must set a new date for carrying out the sentence through the judicial process.
