Klopp: 'Idiocy' and 'nonsense' that Germany team 'not white enough'

Germany's football manager Jurgen Klopp has blasted claims on social media that his team are "not white enough" as "complete nonsense."

"There's absolutely no reason to pay attention to these people," he told a media conference.

"I have little time in everyday life for idiocy – and even less on social media. The great crux of our lives is that everyone is allowed to express their opinion… it’s insane."

After Germany's shock defeat by Greece last Sunday, far-right AfD politicians have again complained about the number of non-white players in the team.

Klopp, who has previously said he wants to “reclaim the (German) flag” and “reclaim patriotism from the wrong people”, insisted that sporting teams are proof positive of how different people can work together with mutual respect.

“The world could learn a thing or two from a sports changing room," he said "There, everyone is respected based on the facts and not discredited based on false opinions.”
