Iraq’s prime minister postponed his planned trip to Riyadh, which was supposed to take place on Thursday. A senior source in Ali Faleh Al-Zaydi’s office told CNN that the trip was postponed “in light of today’s events,” and that the rescheduling was carried out “at the request of the Iraqi side.”

During the official trip, Al-Zaydi was expected to sign memorandums of understanding in several areas and discuss security cooperation, coordinating positions on regional issues, and the impact of the war on regional security and economic stability.

The postponement came after joint U.S. and Saudi attacks on Iraqi territory. The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) said that at least 20 of its members were killed and 32 were wounded in the attacks, and that its bases in seven provinces were targeted.

Al-Zaydi also called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Council’s ministerial body after these attacks.
