Iraq’s prime minister, following the dismissal of the operations commander of Maysan Province over drone attacks on Saudi Arabia from the region, appointed Lieutenant General Ali Al-Kadhim to the post.

Sabah Al-Numan, spokesperson for Iraq’s commander-in-chief of the armed forces, announced that the appointment of Ali Al-Kadhim to the position was carried out on Saturday. He said that Ali Al-Zaydi, the prime minister of Iraq, issued an order to interrogate the Maysan operations command in order to immediately identify the perpetrators of the drone attacks on Saudi Arabia’s East-West pipeline line and to deal with officials.

Since yesterday, Iraq has also closed the Shalamcheh and Chazabeh borders with Iran and has begun investigations into the attack originating from areas near the borders of Iran with Saudi Arabia.

Citing two Iraqi security sources, AFP has reported that Iraqi security forces discovered drone launch pads in the Al-Tayeb area of Maysan Province, near the border with Iran.
