🔶 Iran: One sailor was killed in an attack by Ukraine on an Iranian ship in the Caspian Sea
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Saturday, 3 Mordad (25 July), that a sailor was killed and another sailor was injured in the Ukrainian attack.
In Iran’s statement, it was said that Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has explicitly accepted responsibility for the attack.
The statement described the aforementioned attack as a “aggressive act” that could further flare up and expand the fires of war and also constitutes a violation of international law.
Zelensky had announced on social media that long-range drones had targeted ships in the Caspian Sea, including vessels carrying military cargo that were associated with Iran. The Ukrainian president had also confirmed that an attack had been carried out on an Iranian ship.
In his evening video address as well, Zelensky referred to an increase in military cooperation between Moscow and Tehran. According to him, Russia provides Iran’s army “extensively” with satellite images of the Persian Gulf region.
