The news website “MS Now” (MS Now) claimed that Oman has agreed to a framework agreement with Iran for the temporary reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The website published its report on Friday, August 7 (16 Mordad), citing sources whose names were not disclosed.

As written by MS Now, diplomatic officials have declined to provide details of the temporary agreement or remaining issues, but an Iranian official told the outlet that the agreement would allow commercial ships to enter the Persian Gulf via a route under Iran’s control and leave via a route controlled by Oman, by creating new shipping lanes.

An Iranian official told the website that, under this agreement, ships would not pay customs duties or tariffs for transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

Citing this official, MS Now wrote that the United Nations International Maritime Organization and the United States will participate in an official announcement of this agreement. However, no specific date was mentioned in this regard.
