🔶 Iraj Khaje-Amiri, “Pahlavan of Iranian Singing,” has died

Hosein Khaje-Amiri, the renowned Iranian music singer who had recently been in the hospital under intensive care, died on Wednesday, 21 Mordad (12 August) at the age of 94, according to what the Iranian House of Music has announced.

Iraj Khaje-Amiri was one of the distinctive singers of Iranian music, and his voice was considered one of the few examples of “six-danag” (full-throated, complete vocal range).

He was given the title “Pahlavan of Iranian Singing,” which reflected the special status of his voice in Iran’s traditional music. Mohammadreza Shajarian also said about him: «Iraj’s voice is recognized in the history of Iran’s vocal singing as a yardstick and standard, and anyone who wants to cite an example of the peak of the laryngeal ability would compare their voice to Iraj’s.»
